Merantau & Merah Putih - Gift for Indonesia!

this august, Indonesia will have two great local movie, full with Hollywood's touch: Merantau and Merah Putih! Merantau will released on august 6th and Merah Putih on 13th. You should watch both of it!

Jamila dan Sang Presiden

Semalem, nonton film sama kakak dan sepupu, dan emang udah niat mau nonton Jamila dan Sang Presiden. Film ini diangkat dari novel berjudul 'Pelacur dan Sang Presiden'. Sutradara film ini adalah Ratna Sarumpaet yang juga produser bersama Raam Punjabi. Filmnya tentang Jamila, perempuan yang dari kecil sudah mengalami penganiayaan seksual sejak dijual oleh ayahnya hingga dewasa menjadi pelacur. Jamila menjadi kekasih seorang menteri sampai ketika menteri itu menikah dengan wanita lain. Jamila patah hati dan terjadi pertengkaran dengan sang menteri sampai akhirnya Jamila menembak menteri itu hingga tewas. Jamila mengakuinya dan menolak didampingi pengacara. Ia menerima hukuman mati yang dijatuhkan kepadanya karena ia merasa sudah mati sejak dulu. Selama di penjara menunggu eksekusi, masa lalu Jamila terungkap sedikit demi sedikit. Kemiskinan dan penjualan manusia terutama wanita dan anak-anak menjadi latar ekonomi-sosial yang menjadi alasan lahirnya wanita dengan nasib seperti Jamila. Jamila menyalahkan semua oarang yang harusnya bisa mencegah semua kejadian yang sudah menjadi perangkat sistem yang sulit dihancurkan di negaranya dan di manapun. Presiden, para menteri, pemerintahan, polisi, ahli agama, hingga masyarakat yang menurut kutipan kalimat Jamila digambarkan sebagai tokoh ironis paling besar dalam kisah ini. "Orang kampung mengumandangkan adzan dan ayat-ayat suci menyambut kelahiran bayi-bayi suci di kampung. Tapi kemudian membiarkan anak-anak mereka untuk dikirim atau dijual demi kehidupan yang mereka anggap lebih baik". Kayaknya sih kalimatnya enggak tepat begitu, tapi kurang lebih gitu deh maksudnya. Film ini ditutup dengan eksekusi Jamila. Dengan alur mundur, Jamila dan Sang Presiden lagi-lagi menjadi film yang terpaksa harus memotong banyak hal demi sebuah durasi. Jalan cerita, karakter tokoh, hubungan satu tokoh dengan yang lain banyak yang lompatannya terasa tajam sehingga keterkaitannya seperti dipaksakan. Yang paling jelas adalah kata '...dan sang presiden' pada judul dengan film ini seutuhnya. Presiden tidak digambarkan dalam film ini, tidak juga dalam kedalaman hubungan sebab-akibat presiden dan hidup Jamila selain menjadi satu-satunya orang yang bisa memberikan grasi.Belum lagi, dialog dan akting para pemainnya terasa terlalu teatrikal. Ceritanya yang lumayan 'berat' makin terasa kaku dengan percakapan dan lakon-lakon yang kurang mengalir dan natural. Mereka seperti wayang-wayang dalam panggung sandiwara kehidupan, literally! Tapi, tetap saja sih film ini jadi sumbangan penting literatur film Indonesia. Cuma, film ini jadi rada kurang pas mengingat semalem tadinya kita niat nonton buat refreshing dan cari hiburan. Ternyata bikin gw dan kakak gw nangis-nangis liat adegan anak-anak kampung yang masih kecil diambil dari orangtua mereka, diangkut truk untuk dijual. Jadi inget sepupu-sepupu dan ponakan-ponakan gw yang masih kecil, huhu...

Jamila refused to have lawyer to defend her. She admitted the crime and was ready to accept the consequences. She was punished with dead sentence. Waiting to be executed, her past revealed one by one. Jamila was the victim of poverty and human trafficking. The Ugly Truth

This is the teaser poster for the upcoming movie from Sony Pictures, 'The Ugly Truth'. It caught my attention because the cast is Gerard Butler, haha...(and Katherine Heigl as the leading actress).He is a little chubby in this movie (based on the movie images), but still, he's handsome (oh well..). And, his role as a Mike Chadway, a hardcore TV personality who act like a love doctor with all his nasty-ugly-but truth-advises given on television show for men & women. Meanwhile, Katherine as Abby, is like a naive woman who thinks that not all men are jerks, and yes there's one perfect guy for her out there (out nowhere, haha...).Anyway, this movie will release on 24 July in US and on September in Indonesia (yup, quite long, right?!).And there's a funny menu in its official website, which is game where you can pose questions and Mike will answer it. I tried some, like 'pretty face or sexy body?', and he answered: 'two words: sex tape'-Haha, i know, it didn't match at all.
Then i asked, 'hot & hip woman or smart & ordinary woman?'-answer: 'at the end of the day, all we're interested in is looks'- DANG! Then Q: 'women make moves first, cool or not?- A:Monogamy is something women made up to make guys feel guilty..(what the...)
